Ever wanted to see all your spending in one place without manually importing anything? With PSD2 it’s possible — and in Spain it has been available for years through Redsys. This guide explains exactly how it works, what data your bank shares, and why it’s completely safe.
What is PSD2 and why does it matter for your finances?
PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) is a European regulation that requires banks to open their APIs to authorised third-party providers. In practice: it’s the law that lets apps like Gasto read your bank transactions legally and securely — without you ever sharing your password.
Before PSD2, the only way to import your bank history was downloading a CSV and uploading it manually. With PSD2, sync is automatic and real-time.
PSD2 in Spain: the role of Redsys HUB
In Spain, PSD2 connections go through Redsys HUB PSD2, the official infrastructure of the Spanish financial system. Redsys acts as a technical intermediary between personal finance apps and banks, ensuring everything complies with Banco de España and EU regulations.
Thanks to this, Gasto can connect with more than 20 Spanish banks — including BBVA, Santander, CaixaBank, Kutxabank, Sabadell, Bankinter, Unicaja, Ibercaja and more.
How do I connect my bank to Gasto step by step?
The full process takes under 2 minutes:
- Open Gasto and go to Settings → Bank connections
- Choose your bank from the list of supported institutions
- You’ll be redirected to your bank’s official website — never to a Gasto screen
- Log in directly with your bank — Gasto never sees your password
- Grant read access to your transactions
- Done — Gasto imports your history and classifies it automatically with AI
Your bank credentials stay with your bank. Always.
What data does Gasto access exactly?
Gasto requests read-only access to three types of data:
- Transaction history — to classify spending and show your habits
- Account balance — so you can see your current available funds
- IBAN — only to identify the account in the interface
Gasto cannot initiate transfers, move money, or change anything in your bank account.
Is it safe? Regulation, expiry and full control
Yes. PSD2 connections have three layers of protection:
- Official regulation — supervised by Banco de España and the EBA (European Banking Authority)
- Automatic expiry — consent expires after 90 days; if you don’t renew it, access is cut off automatically
- Full control — you can revoke access from Gasto at any time, or directly from your bank’s online portal
You don’t need to blindly trust Gasto: your bank remains the guardian of your credentials.
Which Spanish banks are supported?
